WEBMar 21, 2009 · AFAIK the Wells Index is the only mill made in the US. Reports on the web seem good. I have used Sharp, Lagun and Acer and all were good. Sharp has (or had) a large version big table, so tall it almost has to have a power draw bar and was the largest turret mill I have run. If I was buying for myself and money no object I would lean toward .

WEBDec 22, 2021 · I'm new here. I live near Salem, Oregon and have a WellsIndex 847 mill. I have had this machine for about three years, and installed a generic Chinese digital readout about a year after I acquired it. It is in pretty good shape for its age, and has little wear on the ways. The only bad point is a lot of wear on the Xaxis lead screw and nut.

WEBDec 16, 2012 · AD Machinery bought WellsIndex in 1987 and moved it to Muskegon, MI. Your model 40 shipped in June 1955. It shipped with a table power feed, 1/2 HP single phase motor and # 9 Brown and Sharpe spindle taper. The spindle/quill feed was an option that was not ordered on this mill. A manual for your machine is plus shipping.

WEBMay 17, 2012 · The step, isnt really a big deal. Pick up a piece of 1/8 or 3/16 plate and use that at the step. Usually the step is only 1 inch give or take a bit. The use of heavy pinch bars would be your friend here. I would get the back of the mill facing the shop, with the mills base at the edge of the step.
