WEBFeb 16, 2017 · I used linotype (12% antimony) when I made my media and its very hard and puts a lot of undue stress on your mold and is miserable to cut the sprues off the ball but produces excellent media. Pure antimony can be added to molten lead but takes a certain amount of flux and must be done at about 600 degrees for good results.

I have a 1 gallon jar with 30# of 1/2 inch lead ball media, which fills the jar half full. The total powder charge is 600gm, about 1 qt in volume. The KNO3, S, willow coal were all airfloat milled before mixing.

WEBAug 28, 2009 · A large percentage of my media is fishing weights and they work fine. I can't see any significant change in size and I've been using them for about a year and a half or so. The price wasn't much of an issue and were definitely cheaper than my brass media. I can't remember specifics but I got like 200 1/2" weights for around 15 20 USD.

WEBJun 19, 2023 · Most rock tumblers will not turn a load of lead balls simply because a mill jar full is too heavy. Use CERAMIC media. With ceramic media you should be able to load a 12 pound jar with 9 pounds of media and 3 pounds of ingredients and make a batch in 4 hours. A sample of powder with a 100ppm of lead powder is marked as home made.

WEBI've casted my own media with scrap lead from buildings. I just drilled holes in a piece of wood and poured the led into it. The media became round after a year of using but I milled an awefull a lot. You might want to look into brass tho. I've seen some brass balls on aliexpress. I might go for a mix of 12mm and 8mm
